Preliminary investigation into suspected electoral fraud in Dalarna is resumed

After an anonymous report of suspected election fraud in Dalarna, the police began a reconnaissance operation against the designated persons.

The intelligence material was presented to the National Anti-Corruption Unit on September 1 and a preliminary investigation into improper voting was initiated.

But on September 8, the preliminary investigation was dropped following a decision by the prosecutor, which is evident from documents from the Public Prosecutor's Office that SVT has seen.

- Initially it was dropped due to evidence problems. Then certain information came to light that made it necessary to look at this again, says Oskar Edvardsson.

In the decision to reopen the investigation, which came on 21 September, it is only stated that: "new circumstances justify the resumption of the preliminary investigation". The prosecutor does not want to give any details about what it was about.

Three people in the investigation

In the documents, it appears that two people were suspects initially. But in connection with the resumption of the preliminary investigation on September 21, another suspect was added.

"There is reason to assume that crimes subject to public prosecution have been committed," it says about the person.

All three identities are classified in the documents.

Prosecutor Oskar Edvardsson does not want to comment on information about suspects in the investigation.

- There is no one who has been informed of suspicion. Then whether there is a suspect or not, I don't want to go into.
