Four men arrested in police raids targeting gangland violence

Police have arrested four men during a pre-planned "day of action" as part of an ongoing investigation into gangland violence.

Police executed warrants at addresses in Bellshill and Motherwell on Friday and also recovered four stolen vehicles.

One of the men arrested, a 29-year-old, was charged after a car crashed into a house in Eaglesham on Friday 21 August. There were no reports of any injuries. He is due to appear in court on Monday.

It brings the total number of arrests as part of Operation Portaledge to 81.

A 21-year-old was arrested and charged in connection with a disturbance at a premises in Milton Road, Kirkintilloch on Tuesday 18 August and a wilful fireraising in the same area on Saturday 22 August.

He was due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.

A second 21-year-old man was also arrested and charged in connection with the wilful fireraising on Saturday 22 August.

A 29-year-old man was arrested and charged after a vehicle struck a property in Low Borland Way, Eaglesham on Friday 21 August. There were no reports of any injuries.

He is also due to appear in court on Monday.

A 31-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with a wilful fire-raising of a car in Crowhill Street, Glasgow at about 04:30 on Monday 6 April. No-one was injured.

He was due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.
