A cyber attack was carried out on blood storage facilities in France

According to news in the national media, in the cyber attack on the cooling system used in the storage facilities of the French Blood Society (EFS) in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comte region of France on the night between November 1 and November 2, hackers increased the temperature settings in different storage facilities where blood samples were stored from minus 30 degrees Celsius to 110 degrees Celsius.

A technician quickly noticed the abnormal rise in temperatures.

The French Ministry of Health reported that the incident did not have any operational impact, thanks to the timely detection of the situation. It is not yet known who the perpetrators of the cyber attack are.

Frederic Pacoud, President of the French Blood Association, said: "The safety of the products was not compromised. We could have lost samples or plasma bags to be used in the treatment of patients." he said.
