Robbery at Renoir Museum in France: Work worth $10 million was stolen

Two thieves broke into the museum dedicated to the famous impressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir in the south of France and stole artworks worth approximately $10 million.

Cagnes-sur-Mer Mayor Bryan Masson announced that two people entered the Renoir Museum and stole four works of art.

While the suspects, identified through security cameras, managed to escape, they left one of the artifacts they stole behind during the escape.

“This morning, two people broke into the Renoir Museum and stole four works of art,” Mayor Masson said. made the statement.

Masson stated that the suspects were identified thanks to municipal security cameras.

Explaining that the two thieves left behind one of the paintings they stole while escaping, Masson said that the total value of the works was calculated by the municipality as approximately 9 million euros, or 10 million dollars.

No details were shared about which works were stolen.

POLICE ARRIVED IN FIVE MINUTES

It was stated that the robbery took place in the early hours of the morning. According to the information provided by the mayor, the museum's alarm went off at 05.48.

“At 5:53 a.m., just five minutes later, our police were on the scene,” Masson said. he said. However, when police teams arrived, the suspects had escaped from the museum.

IT WAS RENOIR'S LAST HOUSE

The Renoir Museum opened in 1960 in the last house where the famous painter lived before his death in 1919.

In addition to Renoir's personal belongings and furniture, the museum's collection includes the painter's easel and wheelchair.

The collection also includes examples of Renoir's portraits, landscape paintings and nude works.

The theft at the Renoir Museum took place less than a year after the major robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris, in which eight works worth approximately $100 million were stolen.

Four suspects thought to be linked to the Louvre robbery that took place during the day were caught.

However, the stolen artifacts have not yet been found, despite extensive search efforts and information exchange with the security units of other countries.
