FVS-RCP confirms three cases of measles in Tabatinga, all of Peruvian nationality

The Amazonas Health Surveillance Foundation – Dr. Rosemary Costa Pinto (FVS-RCP) confirmed, this Thursday (10), three cases of measles in Tabatinga, in the interior of Amazonas. The municipality is 1,108 kilometers from Manaus, in the triple border region with Peru and Colombia.

According to the FVS-RCP, the cases are two children, aged 8 and 1, and a 24-year-old woman. The three patients are of Peruvian nationality.

The confirmation of cases made the FVS-RCP reinforce the importance of vaccination and epidemiological surveillance, especially in border municipalities, where there is movement of people between different countries.

The foundation states that the population does not need to panic, but should keep their vaccinations up to date. The vaccine is considered the main form of prevention against measles.

People who show these signs should seek a health service and inform if they have recently traveled or had contact with people from places where the virus is circulating.
