Gallup survey: Inclination towards the Democratic Party is increasing in the USA

Gallup, a US-based research company, asked more than 3 thousand people living in the US, "Are you closer to the Democratic Party or the Republican Party?" posed the question.

In the survey published under the title "Party Identity of Americans and the Party Identity Americans Tend to - Quarterly", participants who did not describe themselves as Republicans or Democrats were defined as "independent voters".

In line with the results, the rates of orientation towards the Republican Party were compared across the country since January 2025, when US President Donald Trump took office.

Accordingly, the "tendency towards the Republican Party", which was 45 percent in the first quarter of 2025, decreased to 43 percent in the second quarter, 41 percent in the third quarter and 40 percent in the last quarter.

The rate of those turning to the Republican Party dropped to 39 percent in the first quarter of 2026.

The tendency towards the Democratic Party among independent voters increased from 45 percent to 49 percent from the first quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026.

Democrats on the rise

In the same survey, participants were asked: "Do you consider yourself a Republican, Democrat or independent in politics?" It was also asked.

Since Trump took office in January 2025, the rate of those who identify as Republicans has decreased from 27 percent to 25 percent.

The rate of those who define themselves as Democrats increased from 27 percent to 31 percent.

"The biggest advantage"

The New York Times newspaper stated in its news that the figures in the Gallup survey show that it is the biggest advantage for Democrats over Republicans since 2008.

Gallup publishes aggregate survey data on an annual or quarterly basis to report Americans' party affiliations and party leanings.
