Gaza Peace Board to Announce $2.45 Billion Recovery Plan

According to the news platform Axios, the Gaza Peace Board will hold a meeting on September 23. At the meeting, where representatives from a total of 35 countries, including those who are not members of the Board, are expected to attend, a recovery plan for the Gaza Strip worth 2.45 billion dollars and lasting 6 months will be announced.

At the meeting, where US President Donald Trump's special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will speak, Gaza Peace Board High Representative Nikolay Mladenov and Peace Board member former British Prime Minister Tony Blair will also make presentations.

A TOTAL OF 66 PROJECTS WILL BE FINANCED

The $2.45 billion in the recovery plan will be used to finance a total of 66 projects covering areas such as temporary shelter, debris removal, hospital repairs, economic recovery and the deployment of a multinational security force. $400 million will be spent on establishing temporary shelters, $275 million on clearing rubble and unexploded ordnance, $50 million on improving hospitals and $30 million on repairing the road network in Gaza.

Approximately $400 million will be allocated to provide insulated caravans for displaced Palestinians who are forced to live in tents. $20 million will be spent to finance the "weapons buyback program", which covers the delivery of weapons and ammunition by members of armed groups, including Hamas, and their safe destruction.

'ISRAEL AND HAMAS SHOULD COOPERATE'

It was stated in the news that "the cooperation of Israel and Hamas is needed" in the region for the plan to progress, and that the Peace Board believes that donor countries will step in to finance the projects after political obstacles are overcome. According to the news, an unnamed board official stated that the plan shows how "a government, an economy in ruins and a disaster-stricken region" can be revived from scratch.
