Greens want to make Jewish culture in Saxony permanently visible

According to the wishes of the Greens in the state parliament, Jewish culture should remain permanently visible in Saxony. In a motion in parliament, the parliamentary group is committed to securing and further developing the structures, networks and offers created with the current “Tacheles” theme year beyond the year.

Specifically, it calls for, among other things, a nationwide contact point for the coordination and communication of Jewish culture and history as well as the continuation of the “Jewish Life in Art and Culture” funding program at the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony.

Thematic year shows the diversity of Jewish culture in Saxony

“The 'Tacheles' themed year has impressively shown how diverse and lively Jewish culture is in Saxony. This new visibility must not disappear within a year. We now have to secure and further develop the knowledge, networks and offers that have been created. Jewish life belongs to Saxony - to our history, our present and our future," said cultural expert Claudia Maicher of the German Press Agency. In addition to the many committed actors, we also need reliable structures and support after the theme year.

Smaller initiatives and projects in the area in particular need advice, networking and long-term support, emphasized the Green politician: “Our goal is that Jewish culture not only becomes visible in isolated areas, but is of course part of cultural life throughout Saxony.”

Government should present a concept for promoting Jewish culture

The application also calls on the Saxon government to submit a concept to the state parliament on how the promotion of Jewish culture can be further developed in the long term. Jewish organizations as well as other civil society and professional actors should be closely involved.

Celebration of 100 years of the regional association of the Jewish community

“The fact that we are submitting this proposal to the state parliament on the day of the celebration of 100 years of the Saxony State Association of Jewish Communities is a conscious signal. Jewish life has been part of Saxony for centuries. “We have a responsibility to make it visible and promote it - now and in the future,” emphasized parliamentary group leader Franziska Schubert. This is especially true at a time when anti-Semitism is becoming louder and more visible again.

“A vibrant Jewish life is of course part of an open, democratic and diverse Free State - from Leipzig to Dresden to Görlitz, everywhere,” said Schubert. The ceremony will take place next Wednesday.
