A sharp increase in fuel prices in Poland: Return of VAT and record wholesale prices

In the first September quotation, the average price of E10 gasoline is PLN 7.63 per liter - according to data from the e-petrol.pl website. Drivers pay on average PLN 8.39 for a liter of diesel oil, and PLN 2.89 for autogas. Compared to the last maximum prices published by the Ministry of Energy, gasoline has increased in price by PLN 1.06 per liter and diesel by PLN 1.03.

Let us remind you that from the beginning of September, the reduced VAT rate on selected fuels no longer applies. Tax return to 23%. translated into an increase in prices at gas stations by over PLN 1 per liter.

The announcements of price increases caused increased traffic at gas stations at the end of August. On the last day of the month, drivers refueled en masse before the change in rates, and some facilities experienced temporary shortages.

According to e-petrol.pl analysts, the price increase will not slow down in the coming days. Experts indicate that dynamic increases in domestic wholesale will gradually be transferred to the retail market.

In the next week of September, E10 petrol may cost from PLN 7.83 to PLN 7.99 per liter. The forecast range for diesel is PLN 8.79-8.87 per liter, and for autogas - PLN 2.90-2.99/l.

Record-high wholesale prices and tensions on the crude oil market

Wholesale prices of 95-octane gasoline exceeded 6,000 for the first time since 2022. PLN per cubic meter. Diesel again costs over PLN 7,000 wholesale. PLN per cubic meter - for the first time since March.

Domestic producers currently value a cubic meter of unleaded 95 gasoline at an average of PLN 6,358.40 and diesel at PLN 7,073. Compared to the end of August, this means an increase of PLN 447.20 and PLN 554, respectively.

Prices are also influenced by the situation on the international oil market. The price of crude oil has clearly exceeded $90 per barrel in recent days. E-petrol.pl draws attention to geopolitical tensions and logistical problems.

The factors driving up prices include: attacks on refineries in the Middle East and Russia, low fuel supplies in the Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp hub and low water levels on the Rhine, making barge transport difficult.

Additional pressure on the market was caused by the increase in refining margins for Eurobob E5 gasoline. On Wednesday, they reached $62.07 per barrel, approaching the record set in June 2022. The day before, they were $55.62.
