Deputy Minister Baranowski on imports from Brazil: Poland is monitoring the situation

As Deputy Minister Baranowski emphasizes, Poland wants domestic producers to have equal competition conditions. We keep playing so that our producers have equal competitive conditions again, he says.

As an RMF FM journalist revealed today, Polish producers are afraid that the current suspension of imports may only be a temporary solution, and therefore they are demanding security.

Among other things, there is an ongoing audit of poultry and honey in Brazil, which, if the European Commission receives a positive assessment, may mean the return of these products to the EU market. Therefore, Polish producers want to use this period of the ban on imports from Brazil to prepare protective clauses. Both poultry and beef producers indicate a very large increase in imports in recent months. For now, however, Poland is cautious.

When asked by RMF FM, Baranowski admitted that "we negotiated the clauses (...) to be able to activate them if necessary." However, he noted that for now it would be "premature" to declare readiness to use them. He added that the situation is being monitored and the ministry is "preparing to use the measures specified in the contract if necessary."
