Hamburg is experiencing an unusually warm and sunny summer

Hamburg experienced an unusually warm and sunny summer. The average temperature in the months of June, July and August was 18.9 degrees, 2.4 degrees above the long-term average for the comparable period from 1991 to 2020, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced in its preliminary summer balance.

The number of hot days characterizes the summer atmosphere in Germany's second largest city even more clearly than the average: There were 14 hot and up to 4 very hot days in the city area. On hot days the temperature rises to at least 30 degrees, on very hot days to at least 35 degrees. According to the information, four very hot days mean a record for Hamburg. The temperature rose the highest this summer on June 27th in Hamburg-Neuwiedenthal: there it was 39.4 degrees.

In the three meteorological summer months there was around 192 liters of precipitation per square meter. That was 88 percent of the summer average of 218 liters. The sun shone for around 683 hours, longer than the long-term average of 618 hours.
