56-year-old man sets himself on fire in front of the Cartagena courts and is taken to the hospital

A 56-year-old man was rushed to the burn unit of the Virgen de la Arrixaca University Clinical Hospital in Murcia after setting himself on fire on Ángel Bruna Street, in front of the Cartagena courts, reported 112 of the Region of Murcia.

Emergencies received a dozen calls around 8:00 p.m. alerting of the event and mobilized firefighters from the Fire Fighting and Rescue Service of the Cartagena City Council, agents from the Local Police of Cartagena and the National Police, as well as members of the Civil Protection of Cartagena and an ambulance from the Management of Emergencies and Health Emergencies 061.

At the scene, firefighters put out the fire and paramedics stabilized the man and proceeded to transport him to the designated hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, the man intended to protest a court ruling. It was the court security personnel who, in the first instance, used the building's fire extinguishers to put out the flames.
