Man arrested on suspicion of sexual violence against his niece dies in prison in MA

According to information from the incident, other prisoners who shared the cell with him called security agents after realizing that the man was feeling unwell. The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) was called, but the team found that he was already dead when he arrived at the unit.

The Criminalistics Institute (Icrim) and the Legal Medical Institute (IML) were also called in to carry out the legal procedures.

The State Secretariat for Penitentiary Administration (Seap) informed that the Civil Police of Maranhão (PC-MA) was notified about the death and that investigative procedures would be initiated to determine the circumstances of the case. The secretariat also stated that it is available to provide clarifications.

Antônio Carlos de Oliveira Silva, 42 years old, was arrested by the Military Police this Sunday (1st), suspected of trying to rape his own niece, a 17-year-old teenager, in Coelho Neto, 336 km from São Luís.

According to the Military Police, the teenager sought help to report her uncle. According to the young woman's report, the suspect arrived at the residence in an aggressive manner, pushed a child who was there and took the teenager to another room.

According to the victim, the man held her by the neck and demanded that she remove her clothes. The teenager denied it and reported having been attacked with punches to the face and chest. The suspect also allegedly tried to forcibly remove her clothes.

The screams for help caught the attention of the teenager's grandparents, who managed to intervene. The young woman managed to escape from the residence and sought help from an aunt, who was also attacked by the suspect.

After receiving the complaint, a Military Police team went to the location. According to the incident report, the man tried to flee when he noticed the police officers arriving, but was caught and arrested.
