Tributes to the United States for the first “Dolly Parton Day”

A month after the death of Dolly Parton at the age of 80, several American cities and states paid tribute to the country singer on Friday. This date, chosen in reference to one of her biggest hits, “9 to 5”, gave rise to the very first “Dolly Parton Day”.

In California, Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom announced the creation of this day this week. “We could all afford to live a little more like Dolly.” Let’s be kind, humble and have fun […] Let’s be a diamond in a world of rhinestones,” he said, quoting a famous quote from the artist. Concerts and gift distributions were notably organized in the State.

Celebrations across America

Gavin Newsom also presented this initiative as an annual event intended to extend the singer's legacy: "We are not just creating a day to celebrate Dolly Parton, we are reminding ourselves, every year, to live as she did, with joy, generosity and a lot of heart."
