Hong Kong Sports Sector Generated HK$46 Billion in 2024

The Census and Statistics Department on Monday released an analysis of contributions to Hong Kong’s economy by sports and related activities in 2024, including the operation of facilities, manufacturing and retail, tourism and supporting initiatives. Hong Kong’s best-ever performance at the Olympics was at the Paris Games in 2024. On the economic front, the sports industry and adjacent sectors generated HK$46 billion in value added at basic prices. The term refers to an industry’s total sales revenue at base prices minus the cost of raw materials and supplies, before government taxes or subsidies are applied. The extra revenue generated by those sectors accounted for 1.5 per cent of the city’s total value added at basic prices.
