Fire hits fruit pavilion at Ceagesp in São Paulo

A large fire that started on Saturday night (5) affected 320 boxes in the MFE-A pavilion, where fruits are sold at Companhia de Entrepostos e Armazéns Gerais de São Paulo (Ceagesp).

The fire started around 11pm and was fought for around three and a half hours by 16 fire department vehicles, as well as local employees. The fire was considered extinguished early in the morning.

According to Ceagesp's press office, there were no victims. The company informed that the warehouse is open, including Varejão, a market that takes place on Sundays.

Only the areas close to the affected pavilion remain isolated for the aftermath work of firefighters and forensic experts, who will determine the causes of the fire. The affected area stored fruit, mainly watermelons.

According to Ceagesp, the extent of the impacts should be known throughout the week, as well as the alternatives for traders to return to work.

According to Civil Defense, “widespread damage was found, with twisted metal structures and damage to the entire block made up of warehouses”.
