Fire in an apartment in Rome: one dead in the Colli Aniene district

The victim was found inside the house that burned down, on the top floor of a building in via Efisio Orano. Firefighters were on site and put out the flames. The causes of the fire are still under investigation

A man died in an apartment fire this morning in Rome. The fire broke out in a house on the top floor of a building in via Efisio Orano, in the Colli Aniene district. The victim lived in the apartment: firefighters arrived on site and, when they put out the flames, found the body. The causes of the fire are yet to be ascertained.

What we know

Two teams of firefighters were used to put out the flames that destroyed the apartment on the eighth floor in via Efisio Orano. Due to the thick smoke, the extinguishing and safety operations took a very long time: the firefighters worked for hours before managing to enter the house where the victim's charred body now lay. According to initial information, the fire spread within a few minutes. The column of smoke rose into the sky until it was visible from the surrounding neighborhoods of the city.

Unidentified victim

The victim has not yet been identified. It could be the man who lived in the apartment: his scooter and car are in fact parked under the house but the owner does not answer the phone and is unreachable. To ascertain the identity of the body it is necessary to wait for the results of the autopsy and DNA tests.
