Fire on Mount Morrone: high flames, extinguishing continues

The fire that has been affecting Mount Morrone for days still raises many concerns, in particular in the municipalities of Roccacasale and Corfinio, in the province of L'Aquila, and of Popoli, in the province of Pescara: yesterday evening the possibility of evacuating houses in Roccacasale was taken into consideration, a decision which was later reversed.

The flames are still burning high and, after the night patrol, extinguishing operations resumed this morning with a significant deployment of forces. Three Canadairs and a helicopter and teams of firefighters and civil protection volunteers, together with the army, are on the field. A Canadair has broken down and will be replaced by an aircraft coming from Naples.

The situation is difficult, this morning's rain helped, but the fight against the fire continues on the entire front. Today the powerful army vehicle should arrive from Rome to plow through fire roads and contain the fire from houses and other wooded areas.

Meanwhile, according to Abruzzo regional civil protection sources, the fires in Rocca di Cambiamo and Bisegna, also in the province of L'Aquila, are under control: on these fronts too, aircraft and fire brigade and civil protection teams are in action to put them out and possibly start the clean-up. Even in this case, the rain lent a hand.

In Montereale, in the L'Aquila area, where the flames started yesterday due to lightning, the situation is under control.
