Statements on the Strait of Hormuz and Regional Tension from Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Bekayi

Bekayi answered journalists' questions at the weekly press conference he held in the capital Tehran.

Regarding the agreement between Iran and Oman on determining a safe route in the Strait of Hormuz, Bekayi made the following statements:

"Iran and Oman, two coastal countries, have conducted serious negotiations and made progress on determining a safe maritime route in the Strait of Hormuz. It is expected that the agreement between Iran and Oman will be recorded in the International Maritime Organization in the coming days."

"Naval blockade is an attack on the international community"

Bekayi claimed that the US naval blockade of Iran and the "economic war it imposed" were an attack not only against Iran, but also against the entire international community, free trade and the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Referring to the increasing tension in the Strait of Hormuz, Bekayi said that what has been happening in the region recently is not a "tanker war" as expressed by some circles, but a situation that started with the aggression of the USA and Israel and has broader meanings, and that the strait has become unsafe due to the actions of these two countries.

Stating that the attacks on merchant ships in the region and international waters were initiated by the USA and that these attacks were a "terrorist act", Bekayi stated that Iran has the legal right to defend itself and that they will continue to take the necessary measures in this context.

The issue of Iranian pilots allegedly held in Qatar

Bekayi also made statements regarding the situation of 3 Iranian pilots allegedly held in Qatar.

Pointing out that a technical delegation visited Qatar regarding the situation of the pilots, Bekayi stated that technical discussions and negotiations are continuing and that they are following the issue seriously.

Stating that the Qatari delegation had a positive meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Erakchi in Tehran on Saturday, Bekayi noted that the Omani and Pakistani delegations came to Tehran last week and met with Iranian officials, and that contacts with the countries in the region that want to reduce tensions continue.

South Korea's possible military presence in the Strait of Hormuz

Speaking about the possibility of South Korea's military presence in the Strait of Hormuz, Bekayi stated that such initiatives would further complicate the issues in the region.

Bekayi said that participating in the actions of the USA would mean being a party to aggression.
