National train strike: disruptions expected from 7 to 8 September

Risks of delays and cancellations from today evening until September 8 for rail transport due to the 24-hour national strike proclaimed by various independent trade unions. The mobilization starts at 9.18pm on Monday 7 September and ends at 9.00pm on Tuesday 8 September, with possible disruption to Regional, Intercity and High Speed ​​trains. The strike involves the staff of the FS Group, Trenitalia, Trenitalia Tper and Trenord, with the exception of the mobile staff of the Regional Trenitalia of the Provincial Directorates of Trento and Bolzano.

For Trenitalia regional transport, the essential services provided on weekdays in the time slots from 6:00 to 9:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00 will be guaranteed. The strike does not affect local public transport. Passengers who intend to abandon the trip can request a refund from the time the strike is announced until the departure time of the train booked for Intercity and Frecce and until midnight of the day before the strike for Regional trains. Trenitalia also reports that possible changes to the service could occur even before the start and after the conclusion of the strike. Trains that are traveling after the strike has started still arrive at their final destination if it can be reached within an hour of the start of the trade union agitation; after this period, trains can stop in stations preceding the final destination.

In the event of cancellation of airport service trains, the company activates direct replacement buses, without intermediate stops. Connections between Milan Cadorna and Malpensa Airport depart from via Paleocapa 1. For the S50 line, buses guarantee the route between Malpensa airport and the Swiss station of Stabio. In Trentino Alto Adige, a strike has been called by the Trenitalia mobile staff of the Provincial Directorates of Trento and Bolzano from 09:01 to 17:00 on Monday 7 September 2026. For regional trains, in Trentino Alto Adige and neighboring regions, cancellations or changes may occur. Long-distance trains are not affected. Industrial unrest can lead to changes to the service even before it begins and after its conclusion.

Passengers who intend to cancel the trip can request a refund starting from the declaration of strike: until the departure time of the booked train, for Intercity and Frecce trains; until midnight on the day before the strike itself, for regional trains; alternatively they can reschedule the trip, under similar transport conditions, as soon as possible, depending on seat availability. The one on 7 and 8 September is the first train strike of the month. Train drivers and train conductors confirmed the mobilization promoted by the acronyms Cub Trasporti, Sgb, Orsa and by the PdM/PdB national assembly (ground and on-board personnel) together with the Fsi group. At the center of the protest are reasons related to safety at work, the protection of public services and the safeguarding of employment. The mobilization was triggered in particular by the management of the Intercity service, considered the first step towards a progressive fragmentation of the national rail transport system. The unions contest the decision to divide the Intercity service into three separate lots to be put out to tender, in addition to the recent rejection in the Chamber of the social clause which would have guaranteed the protection of workers.
