Reaction from Iranian officials to the US's new economic sanctions decision

Erakçi, in his statement on his social media account, stated that the initiative, described as "Economic D-Day", was a "diversion of attention from the USA's own crisis caused by unprecedented debt and increasing interest costs".

Arguing that the USA's continuation of its unsuccessful policies will bring "more defeat" to Washington, Erakçi noted that this will also increase Iranians' hostility towards the USA.

Erakçi said, "US economic terrorism threatens the global economy and sovereignty around the world." made his assessment.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Garibabadi, in his statement on his social media account, stated that the USA, which claims that "Iran is on the verge of defeat and is hanging by a thread", nevertheless asked for help from all its allies.

Stating that the USA made miscalculations, Garibabadi said, "The problem is the miscalculations that they have to cover up every time. For this, they have to create a bigger defeat for themselves." he said.

Arguing that the US's military initiatives against Iran did not yield results, Garibabadi said, "The military war did not yield results, now they have named the next defeat 'economic war'." made the statement.

US President Trump announced yesterday that he would launch "the most comprehensive economic operation ever implemented against any country" against Iran and warned that severe economic consequences would be imposed on countries that maintain economic relations with Iran.
