The European Union is discussing providing Ukraine with access to the IRIS2 satellite system

The European Union is negotiating to provide Ukraine with access to data from the future IRIS2 communications security satellite constellation, said European Commissioner for Space and Defense Andrius Kubilius.

The IRIS2 project aims to create a low-orbit constellation of satellites to provide EU governments and companies with access to a sovereign and secure communications network. It is planned that the system will be widely used by departments of countries, in particular, for military and intelligence purposes. Its work will be based on the already existing GOVSATCOM program for the transfer of encrypted data between governments. Commissioning is planned for 2029.
