Irish football players plan to wear black armbands in their UEFA Nations League match against "genocidal" Israel tomorrow, in memory of those who lost their lives in the conflict in Gaza.

Irish Football Association (FAI) President David Courell confirmed at the press conference that the Ireland National Football Team will play in the UEFA Nations B League Group 3 match against Israel in Debrecen, Hungary tomorrow.

Stating that the players who will play in the match have some demands, Courell said, "The players plan to commemorate all the lives lost in the conflicts in Gaza by wearing black armbands in the match against Israel." gave the information.

Courell said, "In addition, our team will not participate in some parts of the pre-match ceremony. Our players will donate the earnings from the Israel match, and our federation will donate the income from the Austria match to charities." he said.

Confirming that a player requested to be removed from the squad before the match against Israel, Courell said, "One of our players conveyed his discomfort regarding the match with Israel and his intention to be removed from the squad to our coach." he said.

Noting that the players voted on whether or not to play the matches against Israel, Courell stated that there was a "majority" in favor of playing the matches in the vote.

It was reported that the Irish National Football Team decided to leave the matches against Israel in the UEFA Nations League after consultations with the players.

In the statement made by the Irish Football Federation, it was confirmed that Ireland will participate in the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League matches against Israel.

The statement said: "The federation took this decision following consultations with the Irish players, who had different views, the majority of whom agreed that the matches should be played. The federation respects the views of all the players involved and is aware of the sensitivity regarding these matches." It was said.

In the morning hours, when there were serious doubts about whether the match would be played or not, the pre-match press conference planned to be held today with the participation of Ireland National Team Coach Heimir Hallgrimsson and one player was postponed 15 minutes before it was to start. Reports that some players, including Ireland goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, expressed their desire to withdraw from the match, raised questions about whether the match would be played or not.

Ireland National Team midfielder Jason Knight was the first player to openly state that his country should not play in the UEFA Nations League match against Israel.
