Opposition leaders in Israel decide to take joint action against Netanyahu

Before the upcoming October 27 elections in Israel, the leaders of the opposition parties came together and decided to act jointly against the current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government.

Yair Lapid, Chairman of the There is a Future Party, who decided to enter the elections with the "Together" list with former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, announced that the opposition leaders gathered at his home in his post on the social media platform of the US-based company X.

Lapid shared a photo from his meetings with Yashar Party Chairman Gadi Eisenkot, Bennett from the "Together" list, Our Home Israel Party leader Avigdor Liberman and Democrats Party Chairman Yair Golan.

In his post, Lapid included the visual of the document signed by the party leaders to act jointly for the change of government, and said, "Even if there are ideological disagreements among us, we have the duty to act together to realize the change of government, accepting that it is our common upper goal." he said.

According to the document, the parties will not criticize each other's policies until the elections, each of the parties will increase their votes separately and try to reach a sufficient majority in the Israeli Parliament to form a government that will "protect Israel as a Jewish and democratic state" and work will begin immediately after the elections to establish a joint government.

The document also included the decision to establish three working groups to increase votes, determine the outlines of the government that will be formed after the elections, and combat smear campaigns.

Thus, the opposition parties, which were seen as a bloc, came together officially before the elections to be held in Israel on October 27.

The latest opinion polls regarding the elections in Israel indicate that the opposition wing may reach 54-56 deputies, and the ruling wing led by Netanyahu may reach 50-52 deputies.

According to the Israeli election system, the support of 61 deputies in the 120-seat parliament is required to form a government in the country, and opinion polls show that both blocs cannot reach the quorum to form a coalition government.

It is estimated that the parties representing the Palestinians, for whom the Central Election Committee of the Israeli Parliament decided to prevent them from entering the elections in the previous days and the final decision about them will be made by the Israeli Supreme Court, can reach 12-14 MPs.
