Istanbul Bar Association: 'The suspects who attacked the lawyer during the delivery of the child are in custody'

Istanbul Bar Association, member lawyer Ö. He made a statement titled "We will not allow a climate of violence" regarding the attack on Ş. during the delivery of the child. The statement included the following statements:

“On October 17, 2026, our colleague Av.

According to the statement given by our colleague at the law enforcement, during the delivery of the child, the other party, İ.O and his father C.O, targeted our colleague and made threats such as "Who are you to decide this, you are going too far, I will show you a lawyer, I will handle you", intimidated him by threatening him with a knife and then physically assaulted him. After the incident, our colleague filed a complaint. The suspects have been detained and the investigation process continues.

It is unacceptable for a lawyer to be threatened and subjected to violence just for performing the duties of his profession.

“A LAWYER IS NOT A PARTY TO THE DISPUTE, BUT A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE INDEPENDENT DEFENSE”

The lawyer is not a party to the dispute, but a representative of the independent defense. All kinds of threats and attacks against the defense office, which is one of the founding elements of the judiciary, are aimed not only at the lawyer's person, but also at the freedom of citizens to seek their rights and the functioning of justice.

The targeting of a colleague who fulfilled his legal obligations, especially in a sensitive process such as child surrender, once again demonstrated how important it is for lawyers to continue their professional activities safely.

Our expectation from judicial authorities; Clarifying all aspects of the attack, investigating the incident meticulously, investigating statements regarding the use of a knife, and evaluating the necessary protective measures, including arrest of the suspects, within the framework of legal conditions.

As the Istanbul Bar Association, we contacted our colleague after learning of the incident and the investigation process is closely followed. We will follow the legal process until the end to ensure that the attack against our colleague does not go unpunished and that those responsible are identified and held accountable before the judiciary.

We wish our colleague to get well soon; We emphasize once again that no lawyer should be exposed to threats and fear of violence while practicing his profession.

We will not remain silent against violence against lawyers. "We will continue to be the guarantor of the right to defense alongside our colleagues."
