18 suspects were caught in the 'Streets Safe' operation based in Istanbul and Kars

18 suspects were detained in the "Streets Are Safe" operation in Istanbul.

It was reported that the operation was carried out against crimes such as "attempted murder", "establishing a criminal organisation", "aggravated plunder" and "damage to property". It was determined that the suspects were demanding extortion under the name of "street rights".

It was determined that the businesses of business people who did not accept to pay money were shot at, and some were attacked. Simultaneous raids were carried out in Istanbul and Kars.

18 of the 26 suspects for whom an arrest warrant was issued were detained and taken to the police.

STATEMENT FROM MINISTER GÜRLEK

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek also announced that judicial proceedings were carried out against 2 thousand 447 suspects and 148 simultaneous operations were carried out in the "Streets Are Safe" operations across the country, within the scope of the investigations carried out by 78 Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices.

Minister Gürlek, in his statement on his social account, stated that under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in coordination with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, they determinedly continue the fight against street gangs that threaten the peace of the nation, the security of cities and the future of children.

Stating that the new academic year has started and that "Streets are Safe" operations have been carried out within this scope, Gürlek continued as follows:

"Today, on the morning of September 14, when millions of our children returned to schools for the new academic year, we launched 'Streets are Safe' operations across the country against street gangs and new generation criminal organizations that set their sights on the future of our children. Under the coordination of our General Directorate of Criminal Affairs, within the scope of the investigations carried out by our 78 Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, judicial proceedings were carried out against 2 thousand 447 suspects, and 148 simultaneous operations were carried out with our gendarmerie and police departments. From drugs to looting, arms trade "Our fight against these criminal structures, which operate in a wide range of crimes from blackmail, money laundering to illegal betting, is not limited to just catching criminals."

Minister Gürlek said, "Our goal is to eliminate the human resources, financing, networks, logistics facilities and crime production capacity of criminal organizations. To destroy the structures that do not influence our youth through social media and portray crime as an element of power and status." he said.

Congratulating those who took part in the operations, Gürlek said, "Our streets will not be left to criminal organizations. Our children and young people will not be the human resources of criminal organizations. The power and profit gained from crime will not be preserved. We will continue our fight with determination, together with our Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, police and gendarmerie organizations and all relevant institutions." He made a statement.
