The 104th anniversary of the liberation of Izmir will be celebrated with events to be held throughout the city this year.
Within the scope of the program prepared by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Izmir Governorship, Izmir residents will experience the pride of September 9 together.
The first step of the celebrations will be the 104th Anniversary Victory March, which will start in front of Basmane Police Station at 09:00. The cortege, which will be formed with a 350-meter giant Turkish flag, will reach Cumhuriyet Square from Anafartalar and İkiçeşmelik streets. At the ceremony at 10:00, a moment of silence will be observed, the National Anthem will be sung and a wreath will be presented to the Ataturk Monument.
One of the important stops of the celebrations will be the flag ceremony in front of the Government House. At 10.30, representative cavalry units will reenact the liberation of Izmir. The Turkish flag will be raised accompanied by the National Anthem.
At the ceremony, Izmir Governor Dr. The Holy Quran and the Turkish flag were presented to the Cavalry Unit Commander, represented by Süleyman Elban, and Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay will also present a plaque. In the program at Cumhuriyet Square, which will start at 11.15 after the flag ceremony, folk dances and zeybek performances will be staged, and the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Band will perform marches. At 17.00, cavalry units will march from Cumhuriyet Square to Gündoğdu Square.
The SOLOTÜRK show, which will start at 18.00 in Gündoğdu Square, will offer a visual feast to the people of Izmir. The traditional Lantern Procession will depart from Konak Pier at 20.15 and reach Cumhuriyet and Gündoğdu squares.
THE CELEBRATIONS WILL END WITH A CONCERT
At the finale of the celebrations, Model will take the stage on the Kültürpark grass field within the scope of the Izmir International Fair. The popular band will perform their songs for the people of Izmir in their concert that will start at 21.30. Additionally, within the scope of the fair, the show 'Very Beautiful Movements 2' will be staged free of charge at Kültürpark Atatürk Open Air Theater at 19.45.
SEPTEMBER 9 FROM PAST TO PRESENT
Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Ahmet Piriştina City Archive and Museum (APİKAM) will organize a special talk and exhibition on September 9. In the "Izmir's Independence Day" program that will start at 18.00, City Archives and Museums Branch Manager Dr. Serhan Kemal Saygı will take part as a speaker.
September 9 celebrations in the first years of the Republic will be explained with photographs and documents. In the exhibition, which includes special selections from the APIKAM archive, two Turkish flags hand-sewn in 1922 and 1937, as well as historical documents and objects, will be exhibited. In addition, the 9 September celebration program of 1923 (Ottoman Turkish), the "War of Independence Declaration" published with the signature of Mustafa Kemal dated 13 April 1921 and a Medal of Independence will be among the valuable memories to be exhibited. The exhibition can be visited until October 29.
IZMIR'S 125-YEAR-OLD MEMORY IS IN "25 NIGHT OF THE ACE"
The 125-year-old story of the Clock Tower, the symbol of Izmir, meets the people of Izmir with the exhibition "25 Past the Century". The exhibition prepared by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality will be opened to visitors on September 9 at Vasıf Çınar Exhibition Area in Kordon. The exhibition, which brings the 125-year-old city memory, from the construction of the Clock Tower to the earthquakes it experienced, from its restorations to the changing Konak Square, with historical photographs and narratives, can be visited until October 11.
HALF MARATHON ON SEPTEMBER 13
Within the scope of the 104th anniversary of the liberation of Izmir, the 14th International 9 September Izmir Half Marathon will be held on 13 September under the umbrella of Maraton Izmir, which strengthens Izmir's brand value in the international arena. The race, which will start at 07.30 from Cumhuriyet Square, will be held on a 21-kilometer track.
