The file opened regarding the discovery of Meral Babacan's body in Manisa in 2015 was clarified as a result of the meticulous work of JASAT teams based on the mirror piece at the scene. Suspect R.C. was arrested.
The statement made by the Ministry of Internal Affairs is as follows:
"As a result of the work carried out by the Manisa Provincial Gendarmerie Command, under the coordination of the Gendarmerie General Command's Public Order Department and the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the incident, the perpetrator of which could not be determined in 2015, was brought to light.
After the body of Meral Babacan was found on the Akhisar-Manisa Highway on July 6, 2015, the file, whose perpetrator could not be identified, was re-examined by the Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Team (JASAT) teams.
Upon determining that the plastic piece found at the scene was the side mirror frame of a specific brand and model vehicle, KGYS records from the day of the incident were examined with time and distance measurements. As a result of the studies, it was determined that a vehicle compatible with the mirror frame found at the scene was in the area at the time of the incident.
While it was determined that the vehicle was sold to another person in Şanlıurfa in 2017, it was confirmed in the interview with the current owner that the side mirror of the vehicle had been changed in the past.
R.C., who was determined to be driving the vehicle on the date of the incident, was caught in an operation carried out by JASAT teams and was arrested by the court.

As a result of the meticulous work of our chief public prosecutors' offices and our Police and Gendarmerie organizations, under the coordination of our Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department, we have brought to light three more unsolved cases that have been waiting to be clarified for 11, 15 and 19 years:
2 ARRESTS IN AKSARAY IN A 19-YEAR-OLD FILE
The file regarding the fate of Fadime Görgülü, who disappeared in Aksaray's Ağaçören district in 2007, was re-examined. The investigation was deepened with contradictory statements from family members, re-evaluated evidence and field studies. Searches were carried out at the missing person's residence with a cadaver search dog and underground imaging devices.
Within the scope of the investigation, 3 bracelets stated to belong to Fadime Görgülü were seized as a result of the information given by the suspect Hava G. in his statement regarding the incident. As a result of the investigation, Hava G. and İlhan G. were arrested. The investigation to reveal the fate of Fadime Görgülü and all aspects of the incident is continuing meticulously.
10 SUSPECTS CAUGHT IN GAZİANTEP IN A 15-YEAR-OLD FILE
The file regarding the murder of Mehmet Kaya, who lost his life as a result of an armed attack in Gaziantep on January 3, 2011, was re-examined in all its aspects. HTS recordings were expanded and reanalyzed; The contradictions in witness statements, base signal information, identification reports and suspect statements were evaluated together.
It was determined that the suspects followed Mehmet Kaya on the day of the incident and carried out surveillance activities around the incident. In simultaneous operations carried out in Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa and Antalya under the coordination of our Gaziantep Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 10 suspects who were considered to be linked to the incident were caught and detained.
11 YEARS OLD FILE WAS ENLIGHTENED FROM A VEHICLE PART IN MANİSA
The file regarding the death of 20-year-old Meral Babacan, who was found dead on the road in Manisa on July 6, 2015, was re-examined. The incident was reenacted; MOBESE and PTS records were re-evaluated in terms of time and distance. It was determined that the vehicle part kept in the forensic deposit belonged to the side mirror frame used in certain Volkswagen models.
As a result of the comparison with the camera images, the vehicle in the area at the time of the incident was identified. During the interview with the owner of the vehicle, it was learned that the side mirror had been replaced before. R.Ç., who was the owner of the vehicle on the date of the incident. He was caught and arrested by the Criminal Judgeship of Peace.
These results obtained years later; It once again demonstrated that the passage of time is not an obstacle to reaching the truth, and that re-examining the evidence with new methods and technologies has important results in clarifying the files.
