2028 Olympic Games: the Olympic flame will cross the 50 states of the United States, a first

The Olympic flame for the Los Angeles 2028 Games will pass through the 50 states of the United States, a first, starting with Georgia, the organizers announced on Tuesday, September 29. The torch will leave Atlanta, the last city in the United States to host the Summer Games, in 1996, and will complete its epic journey in California, where Los Angeles is located.

“Every Olympic Games begins with a single flame, and carrying that flame to Los Angeles is an honor and a privilege that we will share with every corner of the country, as Americans from all 50 states will carry the flame along its route to our opening ceremony,” said the president of the LA28 organizing committee, Casey Wasserman.

Details of the torch's journey, which will begin in spring 2028, will be revealed in 2027. As tradition dictates, the flame will first be lit in the Greek city of Olympia, the birthplace of the Games in ancient times. She will then travel to Atlanta. By 1996, she had seen 42 states, and even space aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia. In 1984, already for the Games in Los Angeles, the torch had traveled to 33 states.
