Player David Corrêa hands over passport to police through lawyer in Rio

Vasco player David Corrêa handed over his passport to the Civil Police this Friday (30). The document was delivered by his lawyer at the 14th DP (Leblon).

The attacker had been summoned this Thursday (29) due to Operation A Tropa investigations. The action investigates crimes such as money laundering and trafficking.

In a statement, David's defense stated that he denies all the accusations from the beginning. The athlete will continue to collaborate and comply with court orders.

Player David Corrêa da Fonseca, known as DVD, handed over his passport to the Civil Police this Friday morning (30). The Vasco attacker did not appear in person at the 14th DP (Leblon), in the South Zone of Rio. The document was delivered by his lawyer.

He is being investigated on suspicion of being part of a criminal organization involved in interstate drug and weapons trafficking and money laundering.

The defense claimed that he did not show up at the scene because “he was tired from the game (against Flamengo), he arrived home at 1 am”.

David had been summoned this Thursday (29), before the game against Flamengo, at the Engenhão Stadium, in the North Zone of Rio, to present his passport and be aware of precautionary measures determined by the Espírito Santo Court.

The measure is part of the investigations of Operation A Tropa, conducted by the Civil Police of Espírito Santo and which investigates crimes involving criminal organizations, money laundering and interstate trafficking of drugs and weapons. In August, he was the target of a search and seizure warrant for weapons and drug trafficking.

Among the precautionary measures imposed on the attacker are the prohibition on leaving the country, the restriction of contact with other people under investigation and witnesses and the obligation to periodically appear in court.

According to the Civil Police, unjustified failure to comply with the determinations may lead to preventive detention being ordered by court decision.

The investigation found conversations between David and Ruan de Freitas Camargo Cruz, a childhood friend of the player and investigated for an attempted murder that occurred in 2024.

David gave a statement in September and denied involvement in drug and weapons trafficking.

What the defense says

In a statement, lawyer Silmar Junior, who is defending David, stated that the player has denied the accusations since the beginning of the investigations and maintains the position that he is innocent.

The defense also highlighted that requests for preventive detention, blocking of property and financial assets were denied by the Court and stated that receipt of the complaint does not represent a conviction, but a preliminary analysis of the facts.

According to the lawyer, David will continue to comply with court orders and collaborate with the courts. The defense states that it hopes that, at the end of the process, the player's innocence will be recognized.
