John Coale talked in Minsk about the release of political prisoners

Earlier, John Coale said that good progress had been made during the talks.

Coale arrived in Minsk yesterday morning. As reported by Reuters, the aim was to talk about the release of further political prisoners.

As a result of talks conducted by the US president's envoy, a total of approximately 500 political prisoners have been released from Belarusian prisons so far. Among them was Polish journalist and activist of the Polish minority, Andrzej Poczobut, who regained his freedom in April.

The Zierkało website, citing the Viasna human rights center, states that there are currently at least 912 prisoners of conscience in Belarus.
