Josh Addo-Carr allegedly tests positive to cocaine in roadside test

Veteran Parramatta winger Josh Addo-Carr has allegedly tested positive to cocaine for the second time in his NRL career after being pulled over by police for a roadside test.

Parramatta confirmed they were aware of an incident involving the 31-year-old, which reportedly happened in Sydney on Friday night.

“The Parramatta Eels are aware of an alleged incident involving Josh Addo-Carr,” the Eels said in a statement on Saturday afternoon.

“The club has notified the NRL Integrity Unit and is co-operating with the appropriate processes, as well as providing welfare support to Josh and his family.

“Parramatta Eels will not be commenting further until the matter has been finalised.”

New South Wales police confirmed in a statement it stopped the driver of a vehicle for random testing in Sydney on Friday night.

A 31-year-old man returned a negative result to a roadside breath test and then underwent a preliminary drug wipe, which allegedly returned a positive indication for cocaine.

An oral fluid sample was obtained and sent for further analysis. The investigation is ongoing, as police await the results of the forensic analysis.

Addo-Carr was sacked by Canterbury in October 2024 after returning a positive reading to a roadside drugs test.

The former NSW and Kangaroos winger maintained he had not knowingly ingested recreational drugs, but the club decided to rip up his contract.

A premiership winner with Melbourne, Addo-Carr had a year remaining on his $500,000 three-year deal with the Bulldogs.

Addo-Carr was handed a four-match ban by the NRL Integrity Unit and a $15,000 fine.

He was also fined $682 and suspended from driving for three months following the incident.

Addo-Carr has been a regular starter in his two seasons with Parramatta.

He scored a try in the Eels’ final match of the season, a 24-22 loss to the Dragons on 6 September.
