Jürgen Klopp's turbulent and emotional debut as national coach in Amsterdam

Jürgen Klopp had promised an energetic and chaotic debut as national coach and kept that promise. The German national team went on a wild ride in the Nations League game in Amsterdam that gives hope for a better future: chances on both sides, controversial scenes, lots of emotions and speed.

In the end the score was 1:1, the hosts' equalizer only came in stoppage time, but it reflected the course of the game. The result was deserved for both sides.

Lothar Matthäus also saw it that way. In his analysis on RTL, he gave Klopp a grade of “two to three”. The record national player continued: "Klopp breathed fight into the team, they fought back. It was a good debut. We can be satisfied with the result and the attitude. But of course there are still things to improve."

“A deserved draw,” says Kimmich

Klopp didn't want to contradict that. "I was very satisfied with many individual performances and the passion," said the 59-year-old and spoke of a duel between two very good teams: "We can play better and more football, for sure. That was really exhausting today." Klopp continued: “We would have loved to win here, but we can live with the point.”

Captain Joshua Kimmich said: "It was an intense game in which not everything was perfect, but in which a lot of things felt good. The Dutch got stronger in the second half, we were busy defending. It was a deserved draw."

Jonathan Tah concluded: "We would have liked to have won this game. But they scored outstandingly. We took a good first step, it was very intense. We brought in fire and energy. We wanted to show a new face."
