The court maintained the temporary arrest of gynecologist Rodrigo Costa Brandão, after undergoing a custody hearing on Thursday (3). He is suspected of having directly participated in the torture and rape of a 27-year-old man, according to information obtained by TV Bahia from sources linked to the investigation.
He and two other people were arrested during Operation Ambush, launched by the Civil Police. The three remain in custody after undergoing a custody hearing.
According to the investigation, Rodrigo would have hired Hayra Haianne Queiroz and Adilson Rodrigues Macedo to attract and kidnap the man.
The victim worked as an app driver and was allegedly lured to the location of the kidnapping through a ride requested by Hayra. In captivity, the man would have remained for almost two hours.
According to an investigation by TV Bahia, Rodrigo would have participated in the attacks, wearing a hood. Later, Adilson would also have participated in the torture along with a fourth suspect, who is still wanted.
After the attacks, the victim was allegedly left naked on a road in the Catolândia region, also in western Bahia.
The Civil Police reported that, in addition to the arrests, search warrants were executed at four addresses linked to those under investigation.
The investigation analyzed images from security cameras, witness statements, routes taken by those involved and expert evidence. Materials seized during the operation, including electronic devices, will also be analyzed.
Those investigated are suspected of crimes of kidnapping, torture, rape, serious bodily injury and qualified damage.
Relationship between doctor and victim
According to the investigation, Rodrigo had a relationship with the victim. The man was 27 years old at the time of the crime and worked as an app driver. He had also graduated in medicine in Paraguay.
The suspicion investigated by the police is that Rodrigo planned the crime after the end of the relationship and hired other people to carry out the action.
The victim registered the incident in September 2025, when investigations began.
What Rodrigo Brandão's defense says
"DOURIVALDO AQUINO ADVOGADOS ASSOCIADOS, hereby clarifies, given the news about the arrest of Dr. Rodrigo Costa Brandão, which took place on September 2, 2026, that this is a temporary arrest, of a precautionary and provisional nature, within the scope of an ongoing investigation.
To date, the defense has not had access to the entirety of the investigative documents, a circumstance that prevents a responsible technical statement on the facts and on the judicial decision itself. Furthermore, the process is being carried out under judicial secrecy, preventing the Defense from providing further clarification.
The defense awaits the release of the files and access to the elements already documented, in order to fully exercise their professional prerogatives and adopt the appropriate legal measures.
The office emphasizes that temporary detention does not represent a conviction, nor does it represent a declaration of guilt, and the presumption of innocence, due legal process, adversarial proceedings and broad defense must be preserved.
The Dourivaldo Aquino Advogados Associados Firm reaffirms its confidence in the Judiciary and democratic institutions and informs that it will not shy away from adopting all necessary measures to defend Dr. Rodrigo Costa Brandão, as soon as it has access to the files".
What Adilson's defense says
Adilson Rodrigues Macedo Silva's defense also stated that they are awaiting access to the records. According to lawyer Felipe Amorim Antunes Santos, the arrest was ordered for 30 days and the suspect will be subject to a custody hearing. As advised by the defense, he must exercise his right to silence until the lawyers have complete access to the investigation.
What Hayra's defense says
The report contacted the defense of Hayra Haianne Queiroz, who was responsible for sending a statement on the arrest. However, it still hasn't been done until the last update of this text.
