Urinary Incontinence, a Common Problem in Women, May Remain Untreated

Urinary incontinence, which is a common problem in women but is often hesitant to mention even to a doctor, can remain untreated because it is both embarrassing and thought to be normal.

However, gynecology and obstetrics specialist Assoc. Prof. emphasizes that urinary incontinence is not a destiny. Dr. Aylin Önder Dirican said, "Urinary incontinence is one of the health problems that can significantly affect women's daily and social lives, but is often not talked about. Some women may consider this situation as normal or a problem that must be endured, and delay consulting a physician. However, it can be largely controlled with the correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment."

This situation, which one in every four women in Turkey encounters, can prevent a person from doing sports, staying outside for a long time, being in social environments and even laughing. Dirican emphasized that this situation should not be seen as an inevitable fate.
