50 Years of Tobacco Control Projection Made in Türkiye with Generation-Based Sales Ban

"The Generation-Based Sales Ban is a long-term public health tool that protects future generations from legal access to tobacco without suddenly imposing a ban on current smokers. The model developed for Turkey shows that the Generation-Based Sales Ban scenario could reduce cigarette prevalence to 3.3 percent at the end of 50 years, prevent 1.46 million deaths and 12.79 million disease cases, save 37.1 billion USD in health expenditures and provide 370.4 billion USD in social benefits." "Turkey has made significant progress in tobacco control, but the persistent horizontality in smoking prevalence has shown that a new policy phase is needed. The Generation-Based Sales Ban is a strong option that can fill the structural gap that current measures cannot reach."

"Fighting against illicit trade should be an integral part of the design of a sales ban based on generation.
