Explosive ordnance defusal in Potsdam-Groß Glienicke leads to closures and diversions

A large amount of ordnance from the Second World War is to be defused on Wednesday in the Groß Glienicke district of Potsdam. For the planned demolition, a exclusion circle with a diameter of 1,500 meters will be set up around the Groß Glienicker Heide, as a spokeswoman for the city administration announced. The B2 federal highway is in the restricted area and is scheduled to be closed around 9:30 a.m. to allow rush-hour traffic through before then.

Motorists should then be redirected via Ritterfelddamm, Kladower Damm and Gatower Straße to Heerstraße. In local public transport, bus routes 604 and 638 are affected by the closures. Bus route 638 will take the diversions during the measure. Line 604 will be canceled during the measure. The last bus on line 604 will leave the restricted area towards Falkensee shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Within the exclusion zone are the Groß Glienicke forest settlement, the Preußenhalle, the State Office for the Environment (LfU), a shared accommodation facility and an assisted living facility. In Berlin-Spandau, around 50 single-family houses, the Gatow landscape cemetery, parts of the Rieselfelder and the Habichtswald are affected by the closures.
