10 suspects were detained in the investigation into the death of Kaşif Kozinoğlu

Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the death of former MİT officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu, who was considered to have died suspiciously in Silivri Prison in 2011, legal proceedings were initiated against 11 suspects who were working in prison at the time of the incident. While 10 of the suspects were detained, it was determined that 1 suspect was a fugitive abroad.

Regarding the death of former National Intelligence Organization (MİT) officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu, who died in Silivri Prison in 2011, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek said, "Our Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated legal proceedings against 11 suspects who were working in the penal institution on the date of the incident; 10 suspects were detained, and it was determined that 1 suspect was abroad as a FETO fugitive."

Minister Gürlek, in his statement on his virtual media account, said, "We are determined not to leave any suspicious death in the dark even after many years. We are re-examining the files that raise a question mark in the public conscience, regardless of the time that has passed; we are tracking every available evidence. Former MİT officer Kaşif Kozinoğlu fell ill in Silivri No. 1 L Type Closed Penitentiary Institution, where he was detained, on November 12, 2011, and was referred to Silivri State Hospital; it was determined that he died when he was brought to the hospital. "In the investigation carried out after the incident, camera records and medical documents were examined; witness statements were taken from the penal institution, gendarmerie and medical personnel, the cellmates and the deceased's wife, and it was decided that there was no need for prosecution on 10 April 2012."

Minister Gürlek noted that the Unsolved Crimes Investigation Department re-examined the file and said, "In the light of the evaluations made by our Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the decision of non-prosecution was lifted with the decision of the Silivri Criminal Court of Peace dated 26 August 2026 and the investigation was restarted. Within the scope of the new investigation, a confidentiality decision was taken, a special investigation team was formed and comprehensive studies were initiated to re-clarify all aspects of the incident. At today's stage, our Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued a sentence on the date of the incident." Judicial proceedings have been initiated against 11 suspects working in the execution institution, 10 suspects have been detained, and 1 suspect has been found to be abroad as a member of FETO. Our Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in coordination with our Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command and relevant institutions, continues its work meticulously to reveal the truth and to ensure that those responsible are identified and held accountable before justice. We will continue to pursue unsolved murders, suspicious deaths and unanswered files in the public conscience. "We will not allow the file to be forgotten or any suspicion to be left uninvestigated," he said.
