The search for the soldiers who died during the exercise in the Caspian Sea in Kazakhstan has been completed.

In the statement made by the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan, it was reported that the search and rescue efforts for the soldiers who were thrown into the Caspian Sea during the exercise were completed.

In the statement, it was stated that the bodies of 2 more soldiers were found in the sea in the morning. Thus, it was noted that 14 of the 17 soldiers who were dragged into the sea as a result of the sudden deterioration of weather conditions while performing training and combat duty in the Caspian Sea lost their lives and 3 were rescued.

Investigation ongoing

In the statement made by the Kazakhstan Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the investigation into the death of soldiers during the exercise in Mangistau province is continuing.

In the statement, it was noted that within the scope of the investigation, the statements of more than 30 soldiers were taken and 12 separate expert examinations were initiated.

In the statement of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated that the suspected officials were identified as having performed their military duties negligently, not taking the necessary controls and measures to ensure the safety of the personnel, taking into account the weather conditions, and not organizing the rescue efforts properly.

In the statement, it was emphasized that as a result of the investigation, a legal evaluation will be made about all suspects and the necessary judicial procedures will be implemented.

September 25 was declared National Mourning Day for the soldiers who lost their lives during the exercise in Kazakhstan.

Flags across the country were lowered to half-mast and all concerts and entertainment programs were cancelled.
