Kevin Roberts, influential Trump ally, claims Spanish sovereignty over Ceuta

Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation think tank and a very influential voice in Donald Trump, claimed this Friday the Spanish sovereignty of Ceuta. At an event in Santiago, Chile organized by the Disenso foundation, Vox's think tank, Roberts has repeated twice that Ceuta is a "Spanish city" and has asked for the United States' support for Spain against the "invasion" of Morocco.

Roberts is a prominent actor in Trump's environment since he directs the main conservative think tank in the United States - founded in 1973, it has always served as the ideological driving force of the Republicans - and has practically designed the president's roadmap for this second term through Project 2025. In this sense, a significant number of the measures adopted by Trump are taken from the manual prepared by Heritage.

"We are witnessing a physical attack right now in the invasion of the Spanish city of Ceuta. The Spanish city of Ceuta," said Roberts, who also held a meeting with the general secretary of Vox Ignacio Garriga. Santiago Abascal was scheduled to attend this Vox event in Santiago de Chile, baptized as the V Regional Meeting of the Madrid Forum - an international alliance promoted by Disenso, but he was unable to attend due to the appearance of Pedro Sánchez in Congress due to the Ceuta crisis.

Furthermore, international leaders such as Javier Milei (Argentina) and José Antonio Kast (Chile) were present at this meeting. Also present were the Vice President of Honduras, María Antonieta Mejía, and Sarah Rogers, US Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy, who also made reference to Ceuta and assured that mass immigration “is a destabilizing political force” and, therefore, “state and non-state actors” exploit it.

In any case, Roberts has stood out for his speech in favor of Spain in a context in which the United States has given important public signs of harmony with Morocco due to the historical relationship they maintain and, in recent months, some Republican congressman has come to question the Spanish sovereignty of Ceuta and Melilla.

"We must all, at this moment, all of us, including the United States, support the people of Spain at this moment. And we must call this problem by its name. An invasion, again, by Morocco, who uses the people as pawns for their objectives," he expressed.

Roberts has also attacked Pedro Sánchez for his performance. "And what is the incompetent far-left prime minister of Spain doing? Contrary to the will of his wonderful people, the great people of Spain; instead of supporting those facing an invasion, he goes to the media to attack the King. The first time this has been done in the post-Franco era."

In this way, Vox claims that Spain has received a boost from the United States at a time when its strategy involves toughening its tone towards Morocco. Those from Abascal have requested the suspension of Spain's Treaty of Friendship with Morocco and the departure of the Spanish ambassador in Rabat, in addition to expelling the neighboring country from the co-organization of the 2030 World Cup.
