Kimi Antonelli wins the Italian Grand Prix

Kimi Antonelli is the first driver in F1 history to win from 19th.

Only John Watson, from 22nd at the 1983 United States Grand Prix, has won from a lower grid spot.

Oscar Piastri has finished fifth, overtaken on the final lap by McLaren teammate Lando Norris.

Kimi Antonelli's magical season has continued in emphatic fashion, winning his home Italian Grand Prix from 19th in a historic triumph for the F1 drivers' championship leader.

Antonelli made the race-winning move on his Mercedes teammate George Russell on lap 50 of 53, much to the delight of the thousands of Italians at Monza.

The 20-year-old extends his lead in the drivers' championship, and becomes the first Italian to win the Italian Grand Prix since Ludovico Scarfiotti in 1966.

That was a scary moment for the world champion. He claims Oscar Piastri pushed him off the track. Replays suggest that might be a stretch. I think Piastri just held his line.

Kimi Antonelli leads the Italian Grand Prix. Russell was sliding around through the corners, and Antonelli was able to pounce. There are thousands of Italians in Ferrari shirts cheering like their beloved football team just scored the match-winner.

OH DEAR. Kimi Antonelli was stalking George Russell. He could have taken the lead at the final corner of lap 48, but chose to do it into the first turn of lap 49. Russell defended for all it's worth. Antonelli gets ahead, but runs wide and onto the gravel. "What the f*** happened there?" Antonelli says over the radio.

George Russell is holding on for dear life. His lead is under 2 seconds, and his 43-lap-old tyres are fading. Kimi Antonelli is closing in.

There is a great battle for third, fourth, fifth and sixth. Max Verstappen is third and is just extending his gap to Oscar Piastri. Piastri is now under pressure from his teammate Lando Norris, and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton is sticking around.

Excellent from Oscar Piastri. He stuck to the back of Max Verstappen's Red Bull and took the position into turn 4. These two look set for a battle to the end.

The issue appears to be whether George Russell slowed down sufficiently when yellow flags were shown when Lance Stroll wnet off track.

Here comes Kimi Antonelli. He has overtaken McLaren's Oscar Piastri. Antonelli is second. The lead for George Russell is down to eight seconds.

Lewis Hamilton got his braking wrong into the first corner, and he had to go off track. He is on old mediums. Why did Ferrari not pit him under the VSC. "This tyre is terrible, mate," Hamilton says over the radio. Kimi Antonelli is able to make a very easy pass into third.
