TRNC Prime Minister Üstel met with the relatives of the missing ship that sank off the coast of Kyrenia

According to the written statement made by the TRNC Prime Ministry Press and Public Relations Directorate, Üstel met with the families of the missing citizens regarding the final stage of the search efforts following the ship disaster off the coast of Kyrenia.

At the meeting, the images obtained during the search were shared with the families, while the scanning and technical studies carried out inside the ship were explained in detail.

"THERE IS NO AREA LEFT UNREACHED ON THE SHIP"

In his speech here, Üstel stated that the TRNC state has mobilized all its resources to reach the missing people from the first moment of the accident and said, "There is no area left on the ship that has not been reached. During the comprehensive searches, no other body was found inside the ship." he said.

Stating that the body was found last week under extremely difficult conditions, Üstel said, "However, our search is not over. Our work continues in the air, on land and at sea to reach the bodies that can be found under the sea and on the surface of the water." he said.

ÜSTEL SAID THAT THOSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DISASTER WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE

Stating that the VDR (Navigational Data Recorder) found today was handed over to the police and the necessary investigation will be carried out by the relevant authorities, Üstel underlined that they mobilized the resources used in search and rescue efforts around the world.

Üstel stated that he wholeheartedly shares the concerns of the families and emphasized that they will continue to work to reach the missing with all their resources.

Stating that they are following the legal processes closely, Üstel said, "We will follow all processes to ensure that anyone who is found to have been negligent or at fault in the disaster is subjected to the necessary punishment before the law. No matter who he is, he will be held accountable before justice." he said.

"BLACK BOX FOUND"

It was shared with the families that the navigation data recorder, known to the public as the "black box" and which is of critical importance in determining the cause of the disaster, was found. It is expected that the examination of the device will contribute to clarifying what happened in the period until the ship capsized.

SHIP SINKING IN KYRENIA

The high-speed passenger ship named "Fleet Jet", which was operating between Kyrenia Port in TRNC and Taşucu Port in Mersin, started to take in water from its front part shortly after departing from Kyrenia at noon on Sunday, August 30, and sank while trying to return to Kyrenia Port.
