Reaction from All Pensioners' Union to the wage increase and livelihood crisis

All Retirees' Union Izmir Branches Platform made a statement in front of Türkan Saylan Cultural Center regarding the economic conditions of retirees and the lack of a rolling raise for retired civil servants. İsmet Dalmış from All Retirees' Union Torbalı District Representation, who read the statement on behalf of the platform, reminded that before the 2023 elections, statements were made that the increases in civil servant salaries would also be reflected on retirees. Dalmış said that after the elections, 8 thousand 77 TL was paid to the salaries of public servants, while no addition was made to the salaries of retired civil servants.

“EQUALITY, NOT DISCRIMINATION AMONG RETIRED PEOPLE”

Arguing that the regulation excluded retirees, Dalmış said that this was against the principle of equality. Stating that SGK and Bağ-Kur retirees and those receiving widows and orphans' pensions are also having difficulties in the face of economic conditions, Dalmış said that the solution is to increase the pensions of all retirees to humane living conditions.

Dalmış said in the statement, "The solution to the problem is to increase pensions to humane living conditions, with a regulation based on equality, not discrimination among retirees. The monthly increase, which amounts to 25 thousand 100 liras today, should be evaluated in this context and given to all retirees."

“IS THERE A RETIRED PERSON IN THE ABLE TO TAKE A HOLIDAY?”

Claiming that no positive steps have been taken so far towards the demands of retirees, Dalmış also criticized the accommodation practice in KYK dormitories for retirees. Dalmış said, "Is a retired person in the mood to take a vacation? What does he know about the situation of a full, hungry person?" In the union's statement, it was argued that the economic demands of retired civil servants as well as other retired segments were ignored.

DRAWN ATTENTION TO THE FOOD AND SHELTER CRISIS

Stating that the economic problems experienced by retirees are not limited to the wage increase, Dalmış stated that workers, retirees and minimum wage earners face financial difficulties. The statement said, "The situation of mine workers, textile workers, retirees, and minimum wage earners is obvious. The food crisis and housing crisis are at their worst."

EYES ON THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT

Stating that the lawsuits filed demanding that the Seyyanen raise be given to retirees were also brought to the Constitutional Court, Dalmış stated that the court combined the files and the process to discuss the issue on its merits has begun.

Dalmış called for the decision process not to be extended and said, "The Constitutional Court will discuss the case on its merits. This period should not be too long. We expect the Constitutional Court to discuss the case in question as soon as possible and put an end to lawlessness and injustice, on behalf of 17 million retirees."
