Colombia announces cutting diplomatic relations with Iran

In the statement made by the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the social media platform of the US-based company X, it was announced that relations with Iran were severed.

In the ministry's written post, the Tehran administration's "alleged connections with terrorist and drug organizations" were cited as the reason for terminating diplomatic relations with Iran.

My country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the decision was taken on September 19 and was "in response to issues related to national and regional security and the fight against international crimes."

The statement noted that the decision was also linked to some other events that damaged Colombia's trust in Iranian authorities.

In the ministry's post, it was emphasized that these events included developments such as "Iran's human rights violations, military activities outside the conflict area in the Middle East, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the restriction of nuclear inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)."
