The Kosovo prosecutor's office detained nine people in the case of the missing group of intellectuals in 1999

The arrest is related to the so-called "a group of intellectuals" who disappeared in the area of ​​Zubin Potok during the Kosovo war. The Kosovo Prosecutor's Office announced that, pursuant to its decision, nine people were detained for 48 hours.

The "intellectual group" consisted mainly of residents of Srbica and Mitrovica. According to the Kosovo authorities, they were abducted and forcibly deported by Serb forces on April 19, 1999. The 23 people belonging to the group included Albanian activists, representatives of the professions and public figures.

In August, the Kosovo authorities carried out exhumation works in the towns of Kaludra and Jabuka in the Zubin Potok commune. Three mass graves and the remains of at least 23 people were discovered there. Four people were previously arrested in connection with the case.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Sunday that the arrest of Serbs in northern Kosovo constitutes "the most perfidious method of ethnic cleansing." He added that Serbia has hired lawyers who maintain contact with the families of arrested Serbs.
