Open House Stockholm, 2–4 October.
100 buildings and sites open this weekend to the public with guided tours. The Open House festival opens environments that are otherwise often closed and gives visitors the chance to discover the city from a completely new perspective. The world's oldest tennis hall, Prince Carl's palace, the Italian embassy and Strawberry arena are some examples of buildings that open up. The world's longest opening
New art in the subway, opening at 1 p.m. at Gärdet
You can soon find the next art experience on your platform. This Saturday, "Art Exchanges in the Subway" will be inaugurated, where temporary exhibitions will be shown at seven different stations. The vernissage starts at Gärdet and continues to Zinkensdamm, Mariatorget, Slussen and Fridhemsplan. Riksteatern, premiering this weekend, will then be played in Märsta and on Monday in Årsta
Human value is put at stake in Dennis Magnusson's new dramatization, inspired by Hans Alfredson's nasty film "The Simple Murderer". In 1930s Sweden, Sven Olsson lives outside the community because of his speech impediment and his appearance, while factory worker Höglund hardens and enjoys ridicule. The new play premieres when the Riksteatern's autumn tour begins and Lennart Jähkel plays the role of the cruel manufacturer. See the Riksteatern's entire repertoire via this link. The legendary British band, fronted by Kevin Rowland, broke through in the early 80s with a blend of soul, pop and Celtic influences – as dramatically appealing as they are direct. For many, they are forever associated with the song "Come On Eileen", but their catalog contains much more than that. Now they are current with the new album "LOVE", which is said to be their last. Dark, dreamlike and strong by acclaimed choreographer
Theater of Dreams, Dansens Hus, plays 1–4 October.
Israeli Hofesh Shechter is one of Europe's most celebrated choreographers and now his company returns to Dansens Hus with "Theatre of Dreams", a work for 13 dancers and a live band. The performance, which has been hailed as "very beautiful, imaginative and emotionally strong", moves in the borderland between dream and nightmare, an evocative dance experience that wants to shake up, seduce and draw the audience into an open, enigmatic space. Listen to words that captivate and stories that linger. In this weekend's Storyteller's Slam, contestants from all over the country meet to see who is the best at oral storytelling. As an eleven-year-old, Isidor Olsbjörk discovered witchcraft via a television program. Four years later he was Swedish champion. In the celebrated performance "Sveriges sista magiker" illusions, mind reading, levitation and storytelling meet in a personal performance about obsession, resistance and the love of an art form. "On the shoulders of others" - Lars von Trier curates
Thielska Galleriet, opens on October 10 and is on display until January 24, 2027
In the Thielska Galleriet's large autumn exhibition "On the shoulders of others", curated by the film director Lars von Trier, the works of art, objects and films that marked his celebrated and must-see films are shown. In the center stands Vilhelm Hammershøi's "Five portraits" from 1901, a painting that made Trier go to Stockholm already as a 19-year-old just to see the painting.
