Kylian Mbappé aims for the 2025 Ballon d'or and considers himself the best player in the world

The application is submitted. Amid the announcements for the presidential election, a Frenchman applied for another, closer election: the Ballon d'Or, awarded on October 26 in London. On the eve of his entry into the Champions League with Real Madrid against Inter, Kylian Mbappé spoke of the prestigious individual award on Monday September 7 at a press conference.

"When you play at Real, the best club in the world, naturally, people associate you with this type of reward. So, yes, people naturally talk about me being the Ballon d'Or when they pass me in the street. For me, it's positive. We'll see. I have the feeling that it's a good year to get it," explained the 27-year-old striker.

“I made history this summer during the most important competition,” added the Frenchman, top scorer in the World Cup with 10 goals, before adding: “But there is still a lot of time. And everyone is free to think who is the best player in the world.”

Relaunched on the subject, to find out if he considered himself to be the best, Kylian Mbappé made no secret: "I still think so but it's very personal. Everyone has their own opinion. Some will say yes, others no. It's a debate... Not everyone necessarily shares my point of view. This year could be the right year to win the Ballon d'Or but it's the journalists who vote and make their choice." The captain of the Blues has systematically appeared in the Top 10 of the Ballon d'Or since 2017, but has never done better than 3rd in 2023.

With this outing, Kylian Mbappé thus poses as champion of the Madrid club in the media campaign which opens to lift the Golden Ball, an exercise that Real Madrid has mastered well, and which José Mourinho had already launched on August 29, after a hat-trick from the Frenchman: "The best players in the world, there are two, three, or four, and we know who they are: they are at Real. For me there is one who, individually, made history this summer".

Kylian Mbappé was also questioned about his cohabitation with Vinicius Jr and Jude Belingham: "I am not in this perspective of considering that there are only three players. I have a broader vision. I am in the spirit of reasoning as a team, of looking for the best way to improve collectively and to be ready to win as many titles as possible." The captain also returned to the digestion of the failure at the World Cup: "Not winning the World Cup was difficult, that's for sure. [...] But it was a very positive tournament for us, to create a connection with the country, for the image of the team. We wanted to win but it was not possible. We are always hungry. The day we are no longer hungry, we have to stop."
