Iran received a formal response from the United States on its peace proposal

Iran has received a formal response from the United States to its latest offer to end the war in the Middle East, the government reported Wednesday, September 30, cited by state media, without specifying its content.

“Today in the Council of Ministers, the proposal from the American side was presented to President Massoud Pezeshkian by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi,” government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani told the official Irna agency.

After more than seven months of conflict and diplomatic impasse, indirect discussions resumed last week between Americans and Iranians on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, but their outcome remains very uncertain.

Seven Iranian conditions to end the war

Iran says it has presented seven conditions to end hostilities and reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the main sticking point in the war. Not all of them are publicly known, but Tehran notably demands a cessation of hostilities on all fronts in the Middle East - including in Lebanon, where Israel faces pro-Iranian Hezbollah; the unfreezing of its assets held abroad; the lifting of sanctions affecting its oil sector as well as the end of the American blockade.

US President Donald Trump rejected this proposal in front of the press on Saturday, but Tehran was awaiting an official response via Qatari mediators. Iran locked down the Strait of Hormuz after Israel and the United States launched war in late February. Washington responded several months later by establishing its own blockade of Iranian ports, which penalizes crude exports through Tehran.
