The migration crisis in Ceuta: statements from the Government and criticism from the Popular Party

The migration crisis in Ceuta continues for another week, marking the political agenda and current events. The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, stated this morning that it is "impossible" to answer the question of how many migrants remain in Ceuta a month after the massive entry and has stressed that there are already 4,000 people who have voluntarily returned to Morocco since August 10. Also this Monday, when the return to school begins in Madrid and the Basque Country, the Minister of Education, Milagros Tolón, has assured that the Government has "everything prepared" to provide an education to minor migrants who finally stay in Ceuta "as established by law" and according to their level of education and age.

For his part, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and twelve regional leaders of the party supported the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, this Monday during an informative breakfast in Madrid. Feijóo has stated that setting up tents around the Poniente Pier in Ceuta to create 1,000 places to welcome migrants is "a great irresponsibility" that makes the work of the security forces and bodies difficult. Accompanied by several of the party's regional barons, Feijóo praised Vivas' "calmness" in protecting Ceuta and stated that his reaction, as well as that of the people of Ceuta and that of "the majority of Spaniards", has frustrated "a plan that began with an invasion", which continued "with resignation" and ended "with some type of cession to the neighboring country".
