The Government Delegation in Ceuta denies prior knowledge of CNI alerts about massive entries

The Government Delegation in Ceuta has spoken out this Friday about the controversy that arose between the Government delegate, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, and his former Chief of Staff, Gonzalo Sanz, and has insisted that "he did not know anything" about the messages from the National Intelligence Center (CNI) about a mass entry alert, contrary to what was stated by Sanz.

In a statement, the Government Delegation in Ceuta has also reported that Gonzalo Sanz has presented his resignation at the request of the Government delegate. Sanz had reported that he had made the decision to resign from that position of trust for "personal and family reasons", although he clarified that the fundamental reason for his departure was the discrepancy of versions with the delegate.

The Government Delegation refers to the statements of the Government delegate at the press conference held on September 8, in which he assured that he was not aware, before July 30, "of the content of the WhatsApp message exchanged between the Chief of Staff and a member of the CNI, nor of the existence or content of the telephone call held between the two."

Likewise, the Government Delegation reiterates that "said message referred to movements detected on social networks that promoted an irregular entry into Ceuta coinciding with the Throne Festival, providing as the only data the number of followers of said groups."

"At no time did the CNI estimate the number of people who were actually going to mobilize, nor did it assess the probability that the call would materialize; its communication was limited to describing the size of the groups mentioned," maintains the government entity.

Finally, the Government Delegation recalls that, from the moment the migratory peaks began, the competent ministries were informed of this circumstance, in order to request the appropriate measures in accordance with the migratory pressure that the autonomous city was suffering.

These measures, as reported in the aforementioned press conference, included the reinforcement of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, the assignment of USECIC units to the border, the request of a GRS unit, the deployment of a UIP unit for citizen security tasks, and the beginning of the procedures for the implementation in Ceuta of a Temporary Care Center for Foreigners (CATE), he added.
